What we want:

Let users create new items and edit all new and existing items.

We dont want users to delete or move. They can copy, but not move.

What permissions do I need to set?

Thank you,

Jody

You need to go to the Advanced permissions, select the applicable user group, edit, & remove the delete permissions. Depending on where this folder is and how it's permissions are already set, you might need remove the inheritance permissions in order for this to work.

I think "modify" and "delete" are the same...meaning if you have rights to edit a file, you also inherently have rights to delete it.

Thanks,
Andrew

Ok, here are the settings I have:

Main security tab:
Read & Execute
List contents
Read
Write
*Modify is not checked

Advanced tab:
Everything checked except Full Control. Delete Subfolders/Files, Delete, and Change Permissions

Since Modify is not checked on the main security tab, is this the reason users are having trouble editing files?

Much appreciated.

And if I checked Modify, it automatically checks Delete and vice versa - you are correct acl03

From the Security tab, click the Advanced tab then the Edit button, check the Deny box next to Delete. Does this accomplish what you want?

Ill try that out and get back with you. if I click the Deny button for domain users, then would it also deny the administrators?
