We have several GB of used space unaccounted for on one of our volumes on a W2K server. When the dir tool is run with the /Q switch, a line of 3 periods (...) appear where the owner entries should be. Is there a solution for this? Also, instead of dir, I'd love to use the fileowners.pl tool. However, I cannot seem to locate it within any of Microsoft's resources.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Is it possible these files were moved from one server to another? I don't know if the file owner attribute would disappear if the files were moved to a server where the owner's account doesn't exist (example moving between servers that are in workgroup mode).
Did you check the folder permissions where these files reside.

The "..." could indicate that the owner information was unable to be obtained. This could happen if the owner account was deleted, but if it's happening on all your directories that is likely not the problem.

You can give this (2000 Reskit) diskuse tool a try:
You could also try the diruse tool. This will tell you the size of every directory and perhaps make it easier to find where the space is being eaten up. Won't tell you owner information, though.
