File not found with Excel

Greetings,
I am having a problem when you double click an excel spreadsheet from explorer or attached email. Excel starts up and then errors file not found. It looks like the spaces in file names are messing it up. Example when you double click abc.xls in c:\my documents\abc.xls I get the error my.xls cant be found, documents.xls cant be found, abc.xls cant be found. Anyone ever had this problem I have it on 3 or 4 different machines. I do not have this problem with any other office product word, powerpoint and access all work with out a problem. We have office 2000 pro on winnt 4.0 with service pack 6.

Tools-0ptions-General and make sure you don't have "ignore other applications" checked.

Thanks for your input. I dont know if your solution was the problem or not. I tried repairing and reinstalling office but did not work. The way I got around it was to rename the users profile and create a new one.
