file names changed after saving

Hello:
I am having a problem with MS Access. I am currently using Access 97 and Windows 2000 professional as OS. Everytime, I modify an Access file and save it. After that, I see the file name changed from lowercase to uppercase with limited to 8 characters only. The content of the file still remains the same just the file name changed. It is very confusing. Anybody seen this problem before? Please help. I am very appreciated any help.

I only have this problem when compacting the entire .mdb .
I used to check and rename the files in the directory I kept them in. I found a better solution developing an application and modifying code from a Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - MSKB Q181076. Works like a champ!!
