Good Day Everyone,

I have just finished setting up a new File server on 2008 64bit.

I would like to transfer over all my files and folders from a windows 2003 server.

Is there a software or "tool" that i can use that would transfer all files and folders over seamlessly. Keep in mind that my main concern is permissions on those folders as this is our mail File Server.

Thank you

Mike

sorry i meant Main File Server.

My major issue here is keeping permission in tact from windows 2003 to Windows 2008

thanks

If it's a domain file server you're transferring from, then permissions shouldn't be an issue. Search here for robocopy. It's the best way to do it.

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

I have used Robocopy in the past, but I would also recommend Microsoft's File System Migration Toolkit:

It's specifically designed to deal with migrations to 2008 and it also supports DFS migrations as well.
