Is there a way to disable, or control the amount of file memory pages for a particular file system ?
Note: NOT for the entire system.

Hi Kutrovsky,

Not that I'm aware of no. The buffer cache is shared between all file systems.

Why are you thinking of doing it on a per file system basis?

Kutrovsky,

Do you run databases on this machine? what sort if so.

I am running an Oracle Data Base, and i want oracle to use it's own cache for the database files. And leave part of the aix level cache to the other applications.
Because, now, when the Oracle server is working, it fills the cache with it's requests, and in the same time he stores them in it's own cache, wich is double caching.

I am running an Oracle database and i want to use the oracle's sga for caching of the database files, and still use some cache for the other programs.

If Oracle uses RAW volume access then it won't generate loading of files in RAM... try it... and Oracle 8 was designed with this AIX behaviour...

Are you sure ?
Do you know a topic, or some more info on the subject ?
"Oracle8 for AIX and file memory pages"

I read somewhere that AIX also cached raw devices ...
