Perhaps, a simple Question!

(solaris 8)
how can i check the hdd?
where can i find some information about the hdd, how many files are there and how many files can put down on it??

the computer must run for database, that`s why i can`t shut down the computer

please help

Use format to get the basic information and sizing. Use ls (possibly with wc -l) or find to check how many files are on the filesystems on it. Read the man pages for format, ls and find and get back to us if you need further clarification. HTH.

df -k will give you pretty good idea about your hdd size and usage.

df -k will show you only what is being used. format will show all partitions of the hdd and list all hdds within a server.

This is off the top of my head. du -a|wc -l will give you how many directories and files there are. du|wc -l will give you how many directories there are. subtract the two and you may get how many files.

you can also look in messages when you last rebooted the machine and see if it has the info.
