I have 1 AIX box that I communicate with only thru FTP from network. Is there better way?? NFS, SAMBA?? what do u all suggest for file management purposes. Also would u point me to sites that have in-depth info on how to activate/install/use your recommendation.
Thank you all for your help.

P.S. whats command to get version of AIX running??

Sorry - I don't understand the first question. Do you mean you communicate via telnet?

uname -a should give you basic info. about the version, if that's what you require.

Thanks for command help. Regarding 1st question, I recieve zipped files, either on CD or thru Internet, thru my PC. After unzipping I then transfer to UNIx thru FTP. Wondering if other way to transfer besides FTP.

Hi,

You can use NFS Client for your PC and mount the AIX volume on it and now you can extract your .zip or .whatever right direct to the mounted volume. Hope this help you and save you a little time.

Site to NFS Vendor or
Remember to purchase the NFS Client, not the Server unless you want to mount the PC's volume on the AIX.

NFS can have serioius problems with AIX 4.3.3 especially if you are using a highy loaded subnet

thanks

Samba works well. My users are happy not having to ftp anymore. It takes some work but once running there is little to do.
