We have just recently did a clean install a NW6 server with all of the latest patches complete. I have this strange file locking issue that takes place. My sales department uses Goldmine version 5.0. There are five members of the sales OU using Goldmine. After the third user logs in, the remaining two cannot access the files due to file locks. The other strange thing is, if I move all users to another OU, then I can only log in 6 users. This only started after an upgrade from 4.2. The users were fine on 4.2. The users can login to the server, just not Goldmine.

We have tried removing the OU's,and placing them in the O, but the users lose all rights. Even with a move through NWAdmin or Console one. An admin equivalent is no longer that. There are no errors in dsrepair. Our system only has 15 users. I have enough licenses for both Goldmine and Novell. There is a known Novell issue with Goldmine, but the only fix is to modify the client setttings. This just kills us. It takes 6 hours to run a 15 min report.

We also tried using CIFS, but the same file locking errors occur. After a certain number, the simple passwords do not work. If you log out one of the users, the one that just could not get in, now does.

To work around the file locking issues, I have the remaining two sales OU users logging in as the same user in a different OU. But, this is not a clean fix.

Any assistance that anyone could give us would be helpful. We are tired of being here every weekend.

Thanks,

What sometimes helps in these types of issues is to turn off File Caching at the client's workstation (fixed a similar issue I had with Peachtree 7 & BAJI forms)

Turning on File Commit also helps with some database applications I have worked on.
