Hi, I have a user who saves files to a folder which he has modify access on. The problem is that some files, usually word docs, open as read only, even when the file is not opened and is not set as read only. The file locking will time out after a couple of days. It is only this user that experiences such problems. Usually it is something silly like a locking file that wasn't removed properly or the wrong NTFS permissions. However, there is nothing obvious here that I can think to try out. Help!!!

The user is using Windows 2000. There is no warning when he opens the file. He can open the file, edit it and save it, but only as another filename. It is not the 'prompt for read only' setting that you can set in word. It seems to be a problem with file lock timeouts. i.e. any file locks are not timing out!
i have it here where its with users using xp pro and office xp pro , i have to unlock the files from the shares option on the server, there is known issues with Virus software running on the users pc, but if your using win2k then i cant really help, but ive posted many a request on here and never got a reply only otger people with the same problems, if its just 1 or 2 users try cancel out what they have on there pcs and what users who dont have probs etc.
