I have created a network directory for each Manager(47 Managers) and an excel file called 'LaunchPad_Cost_Centres.xls' in each of these directories.
I am not sure of the exact mechanism that takes place, but I recently had a file locking issue where the following message was posted for each file I opened.
'LaunchPad_Cost_Centres.xls is locked for editing by 50013135. Open Readonly or click notify....etc'

I am the user it is complaining about that has the file locked i.e the one configured under Tools-> Options-> General-> User Name.

The issue resolved itself over the weekend.

In order to avoid this issue in future, will marking the excel file as a shared workbook that allows multiple users to make changes, resolve the issue permanently?

Thanks

What gets us into trouble is not what we don’t know, its what we know for sure that just ain’t so.

Preventing it may not be as easy. It gave you the error since there was temp file in the particular folder that did not get deleted when Excel was exited.

I thought I had retired...I was mistaken. I used to work for a large corporation; now I work for my wife.
