I have an Access 2000 program that gives me a "File already in use" message when I try to open it. The program is isolated and there is no one else using it (it is on a network). I have tried to copy the file, import it's data to a new database and compact/repair. Worse case, I can probably restore it from a backup, but a lot of work would be lost.

Thanks for any ideas.

Thanks for the help.

razchip,
did you check the file server that the db is on and see who has it open?
do you have an instance access running in your task manager when you do not have access open?
regards,
longhair

Yes, I did check the server and I am unable to see anyone else using the program. When I opened the task manager, Access is not already in use.

Thanks for the help.

razchip,
is the folder in use on the server?
any .ldb file?
does anything else access this db?
did you try a reboot of the machine you are working on?
did you try a reboot of the server?
is the server on a back up and could the file have been 'in use' when the back up hit it?
just some thoughts.
regards,
longhair

Finally got the file deleted, one of the IT guys had to run a special program to erase the file. Somehow it was corrupted the last time it compacted on closeing. Thanks.

Thanks for the help.
