Hi all,

For reference:
Our backup server is Backup exec 8.5
Our SQL server is windows 2000 and runs SQL 2000.

I recently noticed a major problem in the backups of our SQL server. The main Database file is not being backed up - I just get the message "file in use - skipped". This is running at 01:00 when nobody else is in the building. How can I successfully back up this file or make the file 'not in use'

Regards..

Karl

There is backup software known as TSM that can deal with this. What we currently do is get SQL to backup our database to disk just before our "real" backup software backs up our whole system.

This is the SQL command we use:

use master backup database BSUAutomation to backup2 with init

backup2 is a logical device set up in enterprise manager that points to disk.

You can also use the sql server agent to autoamte the process.

Do you have the Backup Exec Agent for SQL Server installed?

Also, just to let you know, there is a forum for Veritas: Backup Exec - it's FORUM481.

Thanks for the advice.

We have solved the problem by doing this:

We've created a daily backup job from Enterprise Manager. Then backup exec can successfully backup the new .BAK that was created.

Thanks again
