Hi all,

I am scanning a letter on letterhead via Acrobat's File/Import/Scan menu. The quality of the scanned document leaves quite a bit to be desired. For instance, instead of a white background I'm getting light grey (blue if printed on a color printer)and the contrast between the text and the background is not good (text is too light). I've tried many adjustments to both the scan resolution and to the scan properties but cannot find a setting that will produce as good a quality scan as I can get from the office copier.

The scanner involved is an Epson Expression 1640XL. It was a $3200 scanner when purchased about 5 years ago. It should be capable of better scans so I assume I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions -- particularly scanner specific suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

It's all dependent on the scan settings - via the scanner's software. The problem is that there's no absolute definition of "white" when it comes to making paper. If the scanner supports it, try black and white as opposed to color. Some scanners also have descreening options for various types of paper. These are usually tricky to set up.
