I have a msexcl97.key file that has mysteriously blown up to over 500 Gig. Basically...its way beyond big...Any ideas? Have run and checked few different virus things, didn't turn up anything. Also, have a bunch of outlook files that are 0kb that have a .nick extension...but can't find out anything about those either...other than my backup doesn't like them and is tellng me they are corrupt...yet, virus scans...couple different ones...aren't picking anything up? Thanks very much

This is not normal. I would archive the file and delete it. Generally when you have file behavior like this, it is a sure sign you have a worm on the lose. a 500Gb file is far too large to be an effective excel file.

archive it, delete it, and monitor it.

Actually, upon further investigation it was a 113 Terabyte file..WOW! Anyway, it is gone. I am worried about a worm ...any ideas how I may investigate that further...I've used 3 different virus scan programs ...nothing turned up.
Thanks again...

There are some Virus Scans that your run after booting into dos from a floppy. This way, you dont give the virus time to "hide" themselves, using your other files as covers. You totally catch them with their pants down. I would definately try this. Just make sure that your floppies are write-protected.
