I have just installed Acrobat Reader 9 on a Win XP pro machine. All was fine. However pdf docs are not automatically recognised.

ie the user has an email with a pdf attached however it does not open with Acrobat Reader.

Any ideas why this would be happening.

Regards
Mark

I mean a PDF.

If it doesn't work, use the right button, open with, select acrobat reader and check the "Always open blah blah"

Also check you still don't have old versions still installed. It's one of the worst (other than Java) for leaving debris all over the place.

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

Did you try "Diancecht's" solution? What happens if you right-click on the .pdf file and use the "Open With" option to browse to Adobe Reader 9, select that and also tick the always open with this program check box?

Is the E-mail (or other security programs) blocking access to the file attachment?

Check the Adobe site for a uninstaller and remove any and all versions of Adobe Reader. Reboot and download a new copy of Reader and reinstall.

As suggested above, Adobe leaves alot of junk all over the place and can be problematic. Adobe does however have good info on their support pages.
