Hello,
Does anyone use file excludes when they backup a UNIX or windows server? For example excluding the paging file 'pagefile.sys' when backing up a windows server? A situation came up here where I work and I need to push out a "standard" set of files to exclude on UNIX and windows servers.
Thanks in advance,
Greg

yup, i use exclude lists quite extensively. in the early days i did setup standard lists and roll them round the systems, obviously over time things change and the excludes need amending. The good thing is that you can use wildcards (well good as long as you keep on top of your exclude lists that is - you don't want new filesystems being added and 3mths later they haven't been backed up as they've been inadvertanly excluded). Basically they're a great idea BUT you have to know your systems and keep on top of the excludes regularly

Be wared, if you are using NB 5.0 MP1 and greater, better read this technote:

After installing 5.0 Maintenance Pack 1, Exclude Lists will no longer work when relative paths with imbedded directory delimiters are specified.
