File Error in Excel 2007

Using Excel 2007.

I have multiple files with the NETWORKDAYS function in two of the cells. My Excel 2007 files save without error, but when I re-open the file I get the error "File error: data may have been lost". The cells with the NETWORKDAYS function have been replaced with #N/A in the cells where the formula used to be.

I have three folders with about 30 files each that contain this formula but only one folder set is giving me the error (at least for now).

These are the two formulas that show #N/A on the files with errors.

=NETWORKDAYS(A6,B6,0)

=IF(G6=1,0,IF(A6>TODAY(),C6,IF(B6<TODAY(),0,NETWORKDAYS(TODAY(),B6,0))))

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ray

Hi,

NETWORKDAYS comes from the Analysis Toolpack (ATPVBAEN.XLA), a separate Addin in Excel, as you may well be aware. It is possible depending on how Excel is started that this Addin may not be loaded, and the formulas would fail, although I understand it would normally be with the #NAME error rather than the #N/A error.

Try including some other Analysis Toolpack functions such as EOMONTH and MROUND in your worksheet to see if they also fail at the same time.

Also try loading Excel without the Analysis ToolPack to verify what happens in this situation with your worksheet. You will find a list of Addins where it can be removed.

If you load the worksheet by activating it from Windows Explorer, or from your desktop without Excel already loaded, try starting Excel first and then using the normal file open mechanism within Excel, and see whether the same results occur. Sometimes Excel can get a little confused if all its files are not correctly located.

On my PC this file is located as follows:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Library\Analysis.
It should probably be in a similar location on your PC, and not on a network drive, which could be another problem area.

Hope this provided some pointers.

Good Luck!

#N/A occurs when you have INVALID DATA.

Check your "DATES"

Peter - I will try your suggestions, but I believe I have already ruled them out.

Skip - I understand I would get the #N/A result if the data was invalid, but what I am experiencing is the file opens up telling me File error: data may have been lost and the actual formulas are gone and in the cell itself is the #N/A.

I can put the formulas back in and get a good result, save the file, and next time it may open ok, but the next time after that it will be with the error and cell change.

What format are you saving the files as? That is, when you go to SaveAs, What's in the "Save As Type" box?

John -

I work in 2007 but all my files are saved as Excel 97-2003 Workbook because all users do not have 2007.

My files say [Compatibility Mode] at the top.
