I have a file I want to encrypt, but the "Encrypt" option under "Anvanced" is greyed out. How do I get this option to be active?

I already have tried steps 1 - 4; but at step 4, that option is greyed out, ans I said above.

Is the drive ntfs? or fat? has to ntfs. Also, can't encrypt on windows xp home. Is it a local file, in a local folder?

As the forum is for Windows XP Pro, I thought it would be assumed to be Windows XP Pro, but I guess not. Yes, it is Windows XP Pro.

still haven't said if it is fat or ntfs file system, or where the file is located, local or server.

Sorry, that encryption is only available on NTFS drives. You can change it to NTFS, without loosing any data or needing to reinstall the OS.
