Thanks in advance.I always get a window popping up when i go to download things off the net.It has the heading File Download. It reads like this. Some files may contain viruses
that will cause you to loose info etc,if you are not sure do not download or save to disk. There is a check box to not show this message again but it is greyed out.I think it is just a setting some where but cannot find it.This is very anoying everytime i go to download i have this message pop up.Could someone tell me where to find the setting so i can get rid of this mesage all the time.Thank you.

I know the dialogue box that you are talking about. It normally comes up when you are downloading exe files. The check box is blocked because if it wasn't you could inadvertently download and run a file that contains a virus. The way that it is set up means that you can only save the file and therefore have to go through more stages before you run it.

This is from Internet Explorer's help file:

"The Always ask before opening this type of file check box is not available for some file types, such as files with the extensions .exe or .com, which run programs or commands. When this check box is not available, you will always be asked before opening this type of file."

I think that the only reason you can see the check box is because to save space they have used the same dialogue box that is used for downloading safer files where it wouldn't in anyway put your system in harms way if they were accidently downloaded.

Sorry not to be of much help,
Blue
