File download links do not work

Does anyone know why my browser will not allow me to donwload files via links.
When I click on a download link, the browser thinks for a while and then end up presenting a blank unloaded screen.

I have found that I am able to download files by right clicking on the link and selecting "Save target as".

This is quiet fustrating. If the link uses some program e.g. Jave script etc then I am totally unable to acquire the target file as the "Save target as" will not work.

Can anybody assist.

I have tried setting minimum security options as well as disabling Norton Antivirus software.

A friend of mine is having the same problem when she clicks on download it downloads into the temp. internet files instead of giving a choice of open, save, cancel or more info.

I like it to download into a download folder on the desk top.

Have you installed another downloader ?

If so , this can alter your choices .

Are you using IE or another browser ?

I find Opera , gets the download , if others don't .
You can have more than one browser installed .
