I have a 3kb file that I want to move from one folder to another folder. Only when I control+x it and move to the new folder and control+v the file, a dialogue window pops up with "Compressing . . ." I can't read the rest of the line.

It keeps that file locked into this dialogue for quite awhile until I stop it. Why? I've also noticed my system has slowed down considerably in the past month or so. I just figured the hdd was getting full but not so. Is this connected?

Any help to understand this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you try using the file-explorer. It's usually a manila folder icon on the task bar or right-click on the Start button (if you have one).
When the file-explorer screed displays navigate to locate the file desired, when found position your cursor over it and then right-click. On the pop-up list left-click on "Copy". Then navigate to where you would like to copy it to and right-click and select "Paste".
Its as simple as that with Windoze.

If you'd like to return to more of a Windows 7 look and feel with your Windows 8 then download and install "Classic Shell". Its free and it works great.
