How do I set the file associations in Solaris 8? i.e. I want local .html files opened by Netscape when I double click them in CDE.

umm ... get me if i'm wrong, but mine does automatically ...

When I double click an .html file in CDE File Manager it tries to run StarOffice which isn't even installed. I'd rather that it open the .html file in Netscape.

:)

you could try using the 'Create Action' tool ... in the menu's somewhere ...

/usr/dt/bin/dtcreate ...

under advanced you can add datatypes ...

it might work.

It may just be my understanding (or lack thereof) of dtcreate but ...

what I really want to know is when you double click an icon in CDE how does CDE know which program to run? Particularly with icons that are themselves not programs but rather documents and such (like .html, .txt, etc.).

have a look at /usr/dt/appconfig/types/<language, probably C>/datatypes.dt

it's got all the datatypes ...
