file association 1

i installed the trial version of fireworks mx a bit over a month ago. it took over all my gif and jpg's...so when i try to open the image from explorer (win 98) fireworks will start up, which takes a minute, and displays the image. i dont actually mind even if its annoying, but my trial period has expired, and now i cant open my images at all. could somebody help me to change this file association? i know it should be possible, but i dont know how.

open a folder in windows and go to tools>options there just go to file types and find the extensions youw ant changed
sometimes i just cant take it...then i realize its already to late

Decree, it isn't as easy as that if you dont know the actual file attributes that should be there!!

I am trying to fix the exact same problem as this caused by fireworks.

The best way to do it is to find a computer that has the correct file associates and copy them from there. The icons for gif + jpg etc are hidden in a system file somewhere.

If I find a solution that works correctly I will let you know the full details.

its actually easy
just go to your .jpg extension under the file types
click it and go to edit...delete the actions it has and go to new
in action type "open"
and then pick the program you want to open it..dont worry about the rest of stuff as if you dont touch it it wont effect anything
sometimes i just cant take it...then i realize its already to late

what do you mean by going to the file extention? do you mean in explorer?
