After downloading ie6 from the windows update site all of my favorites shortcuts have the older style ie5.0 blue-e
instead of the new ie6 blue-e. My shortcut icons in the
quicktray, on my desk top and in start\programs are the
correct ie6 blue-e type.I went to c:\windows\explorer\tools\folder\options\file types\;

I reviewed the advanced tab on all the files listed above
and they all have the ie5.0 blue-e icon on their edit file
type folder, however they display the new ie6 blue-e under
the change icon button, it's also the first icon displayed
and has a red astrick beside it. At the bottom of my
browser's left hand status bar is the new ie6 blue-e icon.
At the upper left hand corner of my browser's title page
is the ie5.5 blue-e icon, and inside the address bar is
the ie5.0 blue-e icon. I've searched this thoroughly at
the Support Dell web site and MS's help and support web
site both to no avail. MS's site list several icon
problems but none matching my problem here. I've also went
to my control panel under add/remove programs and selected
to repair ie6, this of course did not work. I then went to
c:\windows\windows update setup files\ie6setup and
downloaded the ie6 program again, this also did not work.
I would appreciate some further assistance as I've run out
of options.
Thanks in advance.

jchoate,

Mine are an ugly green for some reason. I'm also using IE6. that's exactly how mine appears with the red x next to it (in the box, not the icon). No idea what it means. Try changing your colores to 32-bit True color under Display options...See if that makes any difference.
