I am exporting a report from crystal into excel, and then linking this spreadsheet to an access database. When the report is exported from Crystal, it seems as if the text fields are not recognized in Access unless the exported excel report is opened, modified, and saved. When I go to link this table several columns appear(in the access link preview window) with no data--they simply say column 1,2...when data should be there--the first column should be an employee name. The only columns that are visible are the date columns.
I know this sounds like a strange process, but the goal I am trying to accomplish is to create a shared workbook that employees can access to update information about their work--loans they have in process. This information needs to be updated daily with data stored in the database.
I would like to use a scheduled Crystal report that automatically exports to a spreadsheet linked to access. (the scheduled report would overwrite the existing linked spreadsheet--would this be an issue?). Next, I have a seperate spreadsheet that queries the Access DB (I haven't done this yet, but am guessing I can create a macro that updates the query each time the workbook is opened). The reason for the query is so that each employee's name appears on their own seperate tab. The employees would use this report as a tool to manage their work, they would be able to update and save information. Management will also be using this report as a tool to manage workflow.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? This is turning into an elaborate project, but I don't know how else to do it.
