I am new to working with the Merlin Legend system. I am also new to the company where it is my responsiblity. There is a direct connection currently, but the computer that runs it is very old and over heats after a few minutes of running. The computer is running winSPM release2 on win98. *05 gives me LEGEND 7.0 V9.0. So, here's where the problem lies... I have been trying setup a newer box to make a connection to the Merlin Legend. I have the updates on hand to go to release 7. But, everytime that I have tried to install the software on another box (running windows98, but I have NT/2000/XP available), the install seems to run fine and complete successfully. When I try to run it, I get an error - Field 'UserName' is not of the expected type. I have not been able to make a new connection. I can get to setup step 3, add a new location, but after I enter the location name that is the same as the original, I get the error as soon as I press Tab or Enter to go to the next line entry. I believe that all of the newer boxes I have tried are configured the same as the original. I have searched and it seems no one else has this problem. It occurs at release 2. If I go to release 7 before I try to connect, nothing happens when I click connect. I have tried setting different comm ports. I am using the correct connector. I have even tried swapping the HD from the box that can connect to one that doesn't over heat. Doesn't like it. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

This is one of the worst things that Avaya did. They released a R2 WinSPM to everyone and forgot to make it run, all that you have to do is go to avaya.com and choose software downloads and upgrade to R3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 and your problem will just go away. Sorry but I have know idea what the direct link is to the download.

are you deleteing r2 from your system software before you install R7 avaya advices it ,after deleteing your files will still be there, DON"T DO AN UPGRADE

Thank you all very much! My direct connection is up on a new(er) machine.
