I have seen similar threads but none speak specifically to my inquiry.

I have a 5 field report that varies in the number of records:

Chk_No Chk_Dt Chk_Pye Chk_Dsc Chk_Amt
1234 10/31 Trade Payment 300.00

I have a field in the page footer that I want to contain the total of all the Chk_Amt values for the report. I tried a 'Running Sum' for both 'Over Group' and 'Over All'. Both contained only the last value of Chk_Amt rather than summing them all. I am not familiar with 'grouping' and my playing around with it messed up the format of my report.

Perhaps I could accomplish this via VB, or could anyone provide clarity about the 'group' function? I think that is the only way in Design View I can get what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I recall, Page Footer is not a good place to put a total. Group Footer and Report Footer are the usual places:
=Sum([Chk_Amt])

If you use the Report Wizard and choose as a grouping option, say, Chk_Pye, you will be given the option of adding summary options, such as Sum.

Remou - that worked great!

However, my report now shows a line under each record that says:

'Total Checks to Draw' = $#####

(This is the label for the field I identify the total field as.)

Is there a way to only show that once at the bottom of my table?

Yes. Just keep the total box in the report footer, get rid of the groups; if you are getting lines between each record you have a group with one line only, such as an ID field. Alternatively, group by something that is relevant to your report, Months, maybe.

Putting the grand total in the report footer worked great!

Thanks Remou!
