Field separator

Hello all,

I want to create a field separator to use spaces and tabs and have created the following

FS=" +[ \t]*|[ \t]+"

However, it doesn't appear to be working for multiple spaces.

Any help would be appreciated.

And what happens if you don't set FS at all ?
