Not a SQL question per se but there are participants who could probably field this question well...

Is there any consensus or standard existing for field names?
I've heard of industry-specific codes, but what I'm looking for is something like ISO recommendations for contact fields, e.g. fname, firstname, f_name, etc., and address field standards (how many address lines and their names for international compatibility).

Thanks if you can point me in the right direction!

Ok, this is not a database answer either! <G>
These folks have done good work establishing XML names and processes, you may well wish to use their names, at the least it sure would make it easy to use XML with your database schema.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Thanks Jimbo! That's a good link to have (conspicuous absence of Bill G's group...).
