Field Length: Crystal seems to truncate my varchar fields from SQL

Crystal only displays 255 characters of my varchar field from SQL. I can store up to 8000 characters in my varchar field, but can't display...would use a text data type, but Crystal won't allow me to use text in a formula.

Is there a setting or option that I'm missing??

Thanks,
Bryan

You've summarized it pretty good. Crystal cannot use a field greater than 255 characters in a select or formula. There is no way around that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Crystal only displays 255 characters of my varchar field from SQL". If you are simply displaying the field in the detial section, for example, Crystal should display the total string in the field, regardless of length (there may be some limits). Chris

Hi guys
Yep I found the same funny occurance. Having used Crystal Reports 7,8 and now 8.5 I also found when I display a SQL varchar field (up to 8000 chars)on a report, it only displays 255 characters instead of the whole field value. Did you manage to find how this can be resolved? I am chewing off my wrists here...

Hey guys...
I found the problem. it has to do with the drivers. I have a choice between ODBC, OLEDB and SQL Server.

When I use the SQL Server driver, it truncates the fields. But then the OLEDB driver for SQL server works fine, except when I use the ActiveX Component in VB6, then it complains about Server not yet open.

Look along those lines. is there a Patch or service update we can download to fix this?
