I have a query in Access 97 where I'm joining a last name and first name into one field, fullName (Last, First). In my Crystal Report (v 7.0), I can put this field on the report, but when I try and group by it, it's unavailable in the list of fields to choose from (The query and its other fields are available, but not that field. 2 fields that are Memo data type in Access don't show up either so I wonder if the data type in the query is an issue. Its not a length problem of the 2 names; I tested it with Text of size 2 each & it still didn't show).

The same problem occurs trying to select it as a field in the select expert, or trying to create a parameter that uses fullName as the browse field.

Any ideas??

Thanks,
Ray

Thanks, that's half of the problem solved; I'm actually running in to another problem now, because I want to use the Select Expert to pick from a list of names (Full Name: Last, First) so the report can be done for just one person, and I have the same problem here: the FullName field doesn't appear as one of the choices in the Select Expert. Hopefully this is as easy a fix as the group by problem!!

Did you run 'Verify Database' after making changes to the Access query?

I'm not sure what changes you mean, the function variable I created was in Crystal, not Access; I ran Verify Database just now & it didn't change anything in the Select Expert.... Thanks though...
