I have made a report with multiple groups, when run the report displays just the first group header / footer and detail and will enable you to drill down into the next group which will display group 2 header / footer and detail, from here you can drill down to group 3 header / footer and detail and so on....

is there a way of formatting the borders of a field in the group footer dependant on what is being viewed on screen by the user, eg they will be viewing either group 1 details, group 2 or group 3 etc.

Is it possible to make some kinda of variable that will return true or false dependant on whether someone is viewing a certain group header, then use this variable in the border formatting options for the field i need to format in the group footer?

if someone could give us a clue along with the code that would be great...

thanks

This is dependent upon your CR version. If you have CR 9.0 or above, you can use the function "drilldowngrouplevel". You would go to format field->borders->color border->x+2 and enter something like:

if drilldowngrouplevel = 1 then crRed else
if drilldowngrouplevel = 2 then crGreen else
if drilldowngrouplevel = 3 then crBlue else
crBlack

thanks for that info, currently running on 8.5 so wont be able to use that function im afraid... is there another way to do this in version 8.5?

Thanks

Not sure this meets your needs, but you could just format
fields at each group footer level to appear with a different color border. This would act pretty effectively as a key to what level the drilldown was in.

there are some detail fields / summaries that are displayed in multiple levels of drill-down but i only wanted the field formatted at one particular level of drill down.

sounds as though im going to need to get a new version of crystal :(
