Trying to enter data in field that accepts 1 or 0, the record is not "locked" by other "user", because the only user that is doing the data entry is "lonesome me".

Any ideas?

Field cannot be updated. (Error 3164)
Possible causes:

You tried to update a field in a record or table that is currently locked by another user. Wait for the other user to finish working with the record or table, and then try the operation again.
In Microsoft® Access, you tried to change the value of a control whose Locked property is set to Yes.

Hi

OK if the record is not locked, is the locked property of teh control set to true?, I assume it is a bound control, is its source a calculated value eg ={Col1]+[Col2] or some such?

Oh and incedentally a record can be locked even if you are only user, eg you could have two instances of Access open, or sloppy coding can lock a record within the same instance of Access
