SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to install Windows 2000, during the device detection phase, you may receive the following error message:
Error code 800b0001
Signature for Windows 2000 Professional is invalid
Setup had problems registering the following OLE control dll: WINNT\System32\initpki.dll
Setup may not finish successfully.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the computer has an outdated basic input/output system (BIOS).
Solution:
I've been to the FIC website and checked for BIOS revisions for the PA-2013.
There are five BIOS revisions available for PCB2.0/2.1. The first two are dated 1999. JI538 was released before JI437 or JI438 and is cause for suspicion. I've flashed JI437 and JI438 and receive the same error.
CPU thermal monitoring and video BIOS shadowing are present in the PA-2013 manual but are not available in the BIOS revisions on the FIC website. The core BIOS revision numbers (2A5LEF09) at the top of the computer screen match the numbers printed in the motherboard manual.
