What is the difference between 62.5/125 & 50/125 fibre?? I've got a 4 core run to replace and was planning on using 62.5/125(pre terminated) as that's what we've always used but would like to know the difference!! Also,is there anything wrong with pre terminated? To me it's a great idea but one person i was speaking to said it was useless!! Surely someone can terminate fibre BETTER in a workshop environment then in the field? Thanks guy's.......

62.5 is the current multi mode standard.

Preterm is nice if your careful as you install the fiber. if you damage the pretermed ends you may wind up with a failure or high loss. You must use more care when installing preterm cable. Plus you may wind up with too much excess or not enough depending on how good a job measuring you did.

I dont think it matters as long as you choose match patch cables. I could be wrong. Check out the links above. You may find some useful technical mumbo jumbo

One more.

Qouted from above site:
"...the 50/125 has lower loss at both 850nm and 1300nm wavelength, has higher bandwidth and the best news yet - It cost less to manufacture (10%)! It uses the same connectors due to its outside diameter of 125 microns and uses the same transmission equipment as your existing 62.5/125 fiber."

I'm done. Can you tell it's slow at work? :)

Thanks for all the info ;) i have a feeling you don't have much work going on :p
