I'm trying to add a fibre card to a P615 machine running AIX 5.1 ML 4. I get the following error when running cfgmgr :

cfgmgr: 0514-621 WARNING: The following device packages are required for
device support but are not currently installed.
devices.pci.fibre-channel:devices.pci.df1000fa:devices.pci.df1000fa

I need to download these device packages but have not been able to locate them. Any ideas where I could get them ? Or am I wasting my time, are these fibre connections not supported on 5.1ML4 ?

Those are the drivers for a 5716. A system at 5.1 can't use that model of card.

If you upgrade your system, the drivers should be on the install media. Also, you should have received install media when you received your cards.

Sorry.

Thanks,
do you know what level I'd need to go up to ?
We're kind of stuck because the application may only run on 5.1 so we were hoping that just an increase to the maintenance level would suffice ?

No, I don't think any level of 5.1 will help. I checked the IBM APAR site and there are no patches at 5.1 for the devices.pci.df1000fa filesets. That tells me 5.1 can't use the card.

You could use cards 6227, 6228 or 6239. I do not recommend 6227 because they are old and probably aren't even sold by IBM anymore. 6228s are OK, but the 6239 is a hot swap card and is the newest of the 3. Those model cards use different drivers that are available for 5.1.
