As our company has grown, we think it now makes sense to manage our own fiber installations for smaller projects. I am looking at outfitting our team with the required equipment to properly install and test standard multi-mode fiber.
I know I need:
Optical Power Meters
OTDR
Fusion splicer (probably rental for projects)
Connector tool kits
I would probably set up each region with an installation tool kit and optical power meter, and have one or two (depending on price) OTDR’s strategically placed for quick access for project work and troubleshooting
Would you be able to provide some input as to the optical power meters and OTDR’s? I have only had experience with the Fluke power meters, and Corning’s OTDR and fusion splicers.
Has anyone used a hand held OTDR, if so, how do they compare to traditional models?
Any constructive imput would be appreciated.
