How far can a fiber station module be installed from the KSU without using an extender? I want to install two in a building addition at a high school.

the length of the provided fiber patch cord???? i believe its in the pdf "cd" supplied with ksu from nortel...it may work at a certain distance but nortel wont support it...did you call nortel and ask????why not run a 25/50 pr feed cable????? use saps???

RUN MM FIBER TO NEW LOCATION,USE MCK LOCAL/REMOTE FIBER EXTENDERS.FOUND THESE WORK WELL.

the IG says only the length of the patch cable. you are going to have to use MCK EXTenders if you need to set up stations more than 2500 Ft away from the ICS (max you can get a Dig Sta to work with SAPS) I have used them and they are an excellent product.

mck fiber extenders are about 900 a pair

I had asked because fiber is being installed by us anyway to feed their network, and it would be a lot nicer to run a multi-strand fiber than say a 100-pr feeder. We probably will end up installing copper, because this is a private school and funding is limited, and the way I understand it, you need an extender for each pair of fiber. That would be too much $$$ I'm sure. (Fiber is pretty cheap comparitively).

The fiber in comparison- would not need lightning protection & Nortel does not really support OSP for componentry.

Go with the MCK's. Don't be penny wise & dollar foolish.
