I have a customer that just bought another warehouse next store. It is about 400 feet away and his IT guy wants to have fiber pulled between the two buildings because of the distance.

The customer is trenching and installing a 2 inch conduit under ground for the fiber and the voice copper service.

I have only see fiber installations but I have never installed one. Can anyone provide me with the details for the parts that are needed to this project i.e. fiber cable ( i know it can be purchased preterminated ) and any other parts to get the data signal from point A to B and back to the switch? If you have a web site that you can recommend that I can buy the components from I would appreciate that as well. Maybe one that builds the whole thing for me and just ships all the parts for installation.

Thanks.

Most of the pre-terminated are riser-rated cables - you'll want a duct rated cable. If you plan to do more of this, get trained. If this is the only one, hire someone to terminate it for you.

The conduit should have sweeping 90's underground, and there should be junction boxes for the entrance into the buildings, not just standard "LB" conduit fittings. The fiber will not like the tight radius bend of a 2" "LB" fitting.

As far as termnation goes, you can order a tray/duct rated cable that is pre-terminated/connectorized to plug into a pre-terminated fiber distribution panel on each end. This keeps the end of the cable small for pulling through conduits.
I would suggest using using either 50micron multi-mode, or single mode fiber, 24 strands minimum. They both will provide GIGE speeds out to 400'. If you are looking for 10GIG speeds, you will have to go single mode. As for the terminations, I would suggest "LC" type.

Contact Corning Cable Systems. Their sales engineers can assist.

I would not buy pre-termiated cable that already has the individual connecotrs already installed. This cable will be too big to pull through a 2" conduit.

MFORRENCE is right though, if you are going to do very much of this, it would be to your benefit to become trained and certified. If you buy the fiber and pull it in, and something happens with the install, you will be held liable for the replacement.

If running fiber only... Make sure you run a trace wire to locate the underground fiber.
