I've got a Fiber 4.1 NAM that went out for deployment with a technician. I know it worked in the shop. It came back to the shop, he said it would not boot up. So, I tested it back at our shop. It didn't work.

We sent out a second NAM. Same thing happened. It didn't work, and now doesn't work at the shop. I've pulled it apart, checked the power. I flipped the switch for the monitor package, and can see stuff happen. LED numbers are at 00, so I know that the hardware tests have passed. Still no feature #'s will work. I've tried to replace the fiber card in the MICs, still no luck.

One thing I've noticed in the past, when I unplug a fiber cable from a NAM, the system reboots - this doesn't, but I don't know if that's a valild way to test the NAM communications. Any help out there? Thanks in advance.

what is the status of the module where the NAM is plugged into.
The Norstar must be working -there must be a link to the NAM - then power ON the NAM

What version of swithces you have onsite/ in the lab?

The MICS works fine, works fine with other NAMs not taken out to this site. I've got an R1T1 SW in there now, and have tried upgrading it and resetting the board and back to R1T1 again, no luck.

So in other words, it works with other NAMs, I know it's not the MICs fiber card, fiber cable, etc...

when the NAM is not working,
what is the status of the module in which the NAM is plugged into ...Unequipped or do you see PCID in the ports

OK - we just tested it - comes up "none" which is 'unequipped'?

I done tis many of times, but the application module uses a special slot on the backplane. Sometimes it may appear the board is in all the way, but it isnt. Ensure the board is in place all the way.

Also, plug a keyboard and monitor into the NAM. See where the unit is stopping and what errors appear. It may be as simple as a Y or N answer. If the unit works with a keyboard and mouse you will need to go into bios and enaable keyboardless support.

OK, you may have missed what I was saying.

Everything worked fine. It (NAM) went to an install site, and was brought back dead. Now, the unit boots up fine, it will not communicate with the MICS. No feature codes work - ports show nothing is attached.

Are you using the same Fiber cable onsite and is it still a good fiber ? Tech may have slapped it against a wall a couple of times. (have seen it over and over again)

It's coming back to the shop dead. It's gone out working, coming back dead. Just fixed a NAM on the same MICS a few minutes ago, (not related to this job site) and worked fine, just a dead hard drive.
