My question .....will connection speed be slower if I install a 100mbps fiber converter between 2 1000mbps data switches that are only 600 ft apart. The goal is to hopefully maintain that 1g speed......Our setup is office A has a 1g switch and there is a 600 ft multifiber cable to office B with 1g switch. The 100mbps is just between for connection. Some more understanding and help will be appreciated. Thanks

No chain is stronger than it's weakest link.
If you want 1g speed across all your network you need to use 1g parts everywhere. Of course if all your network does is connect stuff to the Internet then 1g is overkill.
Under $200 gets you gigabit converters so why not just do that?

I think you're asking a more basic question than wires responded to. If not, I apologize for stating the obvious.
Devices in building A will still communication with each other at 1gbit, as will devices within building B. Communications between buildings will be limited to (a shared) 100mbit.
I'll point out that gigabit media converters can be had for less than a hundred bucks a piece, as can many SFPs (depending on your switch manufacturers).
