Just wanted to start a fusion splicing thread.

Always been happy with Corning rentals and just purchased a Fitel single splicer that has produced very nice results (enough to skip splices in loss budget and still pass).

Any other :) or :( opinions or tricks please continue

Always had great luck with the Fujikura (AFL). Burned a lot of glass with those. Started out with an old school Siecor about a decade ago that could burn strands in just about anything. Ah, the good old days...

What about the glass everyone is burning? Corning still holding out as the best? (With secondary nods to Commscope and Pirelli)

I prefer fusion splicing over light crimps or any other fibre terminating method.

I did have a bad experience once though. Can't remember which machine I was using, but the heater timer was set wrong. So I was doing perfectly good splices, but they were breaking when I put them into the heater part.

Didn't find out till I had everything rack mounted (at both ends) and tested it.

Had to re-splice the lot. It was a costly lesson.
