FH 9 & opentype fonts compatibility?

Does anyone know if Freehand 9 can read/use opentype fonts

I'm using Windows XP (uptodate)
I put the fonts in the WINDOWS/fonts folder
but FH doesnt seem to be able to read them

is this the age of the FH version ?
or is there a way around it ?

I sheepishly reply to myself:

I installed the fonts properly with a font manager, rebooted and it was all sorted

(never messed around with fonts before ... )
