Hi Folks

I am in the progress of documenting plans on upgrading our servers to Oracle 9i (Release 2) and I need to decide whether to upgrade AIX 4.3.3 with 64 bits filesets or upgrade it to AIX 5L.

I would really appreciate any feedbacks from you - any good or bad experiences of upgrading oracle 9i on either AIX platforms as I am in mixed minds as to whether to stay on AIX 4.3.3 or move on to AIX 5L, what is the real benefits?

Thanking you all in advance.

Regards

Katherine

4.3.3 is obsolete - I can't get support for it in the UK - so thats good enough reason for me to upgrade. But I'm going to do Oracle to 9.2 first

If you're running 4.3.3, you may already be 64-bit enabled. It's hardware dependent, and AIX should have detected whether it could run 64-bit apps during installation.

If you have this line:
[tt]load64bit:2:wait:/etc/methods/cfg64 >/dev/console 2>&1 # Enable 64-bit execs[/tt]
in /etc/inittab, then you are already 64-bit enabled. If that line is not present, chances are your hardware is not 64-bit capable.

Also check:

smitty -> system environments -> enable 64-bit application environment

Hi Folks

The two servers we have have 64 bits processor running so this shouldn't be a problem - I think I will opt for AIX 5L but do not know for certain how oracle 9i works well on 5L as I believe there was some problems with the early release of 9i.
