I installed an SL1100 6 phone system last year in a pizzeria. Recently an odd problem started. When a call is finished and the NEC extension is being hung up, as the handset gets about 6 inches from the base a fairly loud sound like speaker feedback starts. Both parties can hear it. It gets the loudest just before going on hook. This happens on every line and every extension.

Is this on outside calls only or does it happen on intercom calls as well?

You may want to try 90-68 the trunk calibration just as a precaution.

For testing you could play with 82-14 (Handset gain and loss) or 14-01-03 and 14-01-03 (Trunk gain and loss)and see if any of those have an impact on the noise level.

Grounding the system if that hasn't been done would probably be a prudent step as well.

The trunk calibration procedure requires a system reset afterward.
