This may not be exactly related to "Information Technology Ethics in the Workplace", but I couldn't find a more appropriate forum.

Unfortunately, the (I)CAN-SPAM act is so loopy that it's almost impossible to convict anyone. Usually the government has other charges against the person, and tacks on CAN-SPAM violations with the case. I believe that in Soloway's case, he was distributing drugs through his spam, and there are probably fraud charges in there as well. (But I could be wrong)

It's nice to see some of our laws created for the internet are being upheld. Now to see if there are lawmakers brave enough to tighten up CAN-SPAM and prosecute against it.

I hope the prison he is sent to serves him nothing but Spam (the luncheon meat).

If you have Gmail, go to your Spam folder, and there always are some Spam recipes there.

Or send his cellmates some ci@l15 or \/1@gr@ from his own spams.

The (I)Can-Spam act may be loop-holey, however running a Botnet is computer tampering, etc. That's what they'll nail him on.

May he rot in he11.

Maybe this means that the 1000 peices of spam that I get per day will drop to a more manageable number and I can loosen the rains on my spam filter?

Somehow I don't think so. I'm sure someone else will take over manageing his bot-net. But the new person will probably be outside the US putting them beyond the reach of our friends in the FBI.

I agree mrdenny...sure that only leaves 9 of the 10 left, but who knows how close 11th place is to being 10th.

We may see spam down for a day, but I'm sure by next week it'll be back up.

Now how am I going to get my male enhancement and pron news? I think we need to start a 'free Robert Alan Soloway' movement, stat!!!

Pity the insomniac dyslexic agnostic. He stays up all night, wondering if there really is a dog.

I rec'd 179 pieces of spam this morning, 180 if you include the one that slipped past the filter.

Mr. Soloway may have had a protege methinks!

I hope he teaches all the muggers, thieves, murderers etc that spamming is a good way to earn money / annoy people. I'd rather be spammed than shot, any day. :)

Monty writes "It looks like 'Spam King' Adam Vitale has finally plead guilty to violation of the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 in federal court in New York City. 'The indictment said that in less than a week in August 2005, Vitale and Moeller sent e-mails on behalf of the informant to more than 1,277,000 addresses of subscribers at AOL, the online division of Time Warner Inc. Vitale will be sentenced on September 13 when he faces a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison. Moeller, who lives in New Jersey, faces the same charge.' We discussed Vitale's arrest back in February.

May he rot for all 11 years in prision.
