We have a fedora install that suddenly keeps hanging such that the server appears to be totally down (everything is locked).

Is there anything in the os, or anything we can add to try and troubleshoot why this keeps happening? Any kind of logging, etc?

This initially seemed to start when we added a usb drive to the box. We then virtualized the server and removed the usb drive, and it still happens more than once per day.

any thoughts would be helpful.

thanks.

I had experienced a similar issue that would necessitate that I reboot every couple of days, machine would just hang with nothing of use showing in the logs
Eventually was able to track it down to an issue that some motherboards experience with ACPI settings (seems to affect all Linux distros).
Opening grub.conf and appending the following to the kernel line seems to have helped

acpi=off noapic
