Hi,

Has anyone attempted the following?:-

I am trying to configure my server (FC4), on install, to boot and run from several raid 1 arrays (/boot->md0 /->md1, swap->md2), on two identically partitioned disks.

At the moment I've had little success. I manage to get to the post configuration section of the install but it freezes. I'm thinking that this is somethng to do with mirroring the swap filesystem as when I'm not RAIDing the swap system it boots. The only proble when this happens is that when I remove one of the disks (to test raid) it can not find the OS. However when I remove the other one it can boot!

If anyone has managed what I'm attempting to do, I'd be very grateful to find out how you acheived it.

Many thanks
Steve

I suggest you test removing each drive and I bet you'll find that it boots happily with one but not the other.
The first drive (hda?) will be fine but the second (hdb) wont boot.
This is because of the way that grub creates the boot sector.
Since you are mirrored, the boot sector will tell grub to boot the first drive in all cases which is fine when the second drive is removed but not when the first drive is removed.
The solution is to create a small /boot area on each drive that is NOT raid mirrored and then to manually build a grub boot sector for the second drive to boot it it isolation.

(slowly healing) Trojan.
