Fedora 6 - text not appearing

I've just installed Fedora 6 on a machine, and when I fire it up, where there should be text giving me instructions, there is a box in place of each letter. I followed the steps recommended by the site I downloaded it from (fedoraproject.org), and the install went smoothly as far as I thought.
I'm new to Linux so I'm not sure what step to take next. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes... US English, I paid particular attention to that during the setup.

Are you booting to runlevel 5 (GUI) or 3 (text mode)?

Do you see the bootup logo and the countdown to starting your kernel at the very beginning of the boot process?

Do you see the drivers and mounting steps as part of the boot process?

Booting to GUI, and yes to questions 2 and 3.

Sounds like you're missing fonts?! Or your language setting is incorrect.

Use the boot process to launch into "text" mode to bypass the GUI.

Then you can check your fonts install - perhaps use "yum update" to ensure that all the dependencies and updates are loaded correctly.

You may also want to ensure that your graphics display card(s) and monitor are supported hardware.

Looks like the image I downloaded to burn to CD to install is corrupt, so the intitial installation wasn't stable. Any advice on a good place to download Fedora 6 images? I have to be able to burn it to a CD though, I don't have a DVD drive on the particular server I have to install it on.
The images I got came from fedoraproject.org.

Just a thought... would the fact that the machine is hooked up to the monitor, mouse, and keyboard through a KVM switch have any impact on the installation?

I use a KVM and I haven't seen an impact.

I narrowed the problem down to a corrupt file on disc 3... it was corrupt on each download from the 4 different sources I pulled it from. I googled for that file and added it to the rest of the files, and it reinstalled and seems to be working fine. Now I just need it to start talking with the NIC!
